Approximately 40-percent of Alzheimer's patients experience significant weight loss, some of which may be attributed to the fact that they have lost the ability to distinguish contrast between colors and therefore cannot identify light colored food against light colored plates. Studies have shown that providing Alzheimer's sufferers with plates and cups in a color that provides high-contrast to the food and drink can greatly increase their food and drink intake.
The Red Dinnerware Set was designed to address the eating challenges of those suffering from Alzheimer's disease, but also will prove helpful for the arthritic and those with other dexterity issues and limited hand or finger strength. The red color shows greater contrast against many foods, as opposed to traditional dinnerware, which is typically white or light colored. The specially shaped Scooper Dish has high, sloped sides for easier eating. An indentation 3/4 from the top of the cup helps prevent over-filling. In addition, the built-up fork and spoon provide a wider than normal diameter handle that is easier to grip and use. Made of sturdy plastic. Dishwasher and Microwave Safe.
